Edward (Eddie) Esserman, Director
Eddie Esserman manages Media Services Group's St. Simons Island, Georgia office. Mr. Esserman began his broadcast career in high school and owned multiple radio stations in Georgia. He served as the General Manager of one of the country’s first large market clusters, KSAN, KBGG, KABL and KNEW, San Francisco. He also served as the General Manager and General Sales Manager for Shamrock Broadcasting’s WFOX in Atlanta. Mr. Esserman received a B.S. degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. He was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2010.
Robert L. (Bob) Heymann Jr., Director
Bob Heymann opened the Chicago office in 2008. Prior to that, Mr. Heymann spent 24 years in the media brokerage business in Chicago where he successfully brokered various-sized radio and TV stations from coast to coast with a total aggregate value in excess of $500,000,000. A few of his record setting transactions include the sale of WNIB-FM (now WDRV) Chicago for $165,000,000, the sale of WPNT-FM (now WILV) Chicago for $75,000,000, and the sale of KOMA AM&FM Oklahoma City for $54,000,000. Among his other business enterprises, Mr. Heymann was co-founder and chairman of the nation’s first broadband cable system and chairman of the largest telecom information company partnered with Pacific Bell (now AT&T). Prior to beginning his brokerage business, Mr. Heymann managed KQAK San Francisco and previous to that, he held management positions and consulting relationships with some of the largest broadcasters in America including NBC, CBS, and Evergreen Media.
Mr. Heymann holds a B.S. Degree from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Heymann did post graduate work at New York University’s Stern Graduate School of Business and later pursued an M.B.A. at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Mr. Heymann became one of the youngest persons in U.S. history to be awarded a First Class Radio Telephone License by the FCC after becoming interested in broadcasting at the age of 14.
Jerry Johnson, Director
Jerry Johnson manages Media Services Group’s Minneapolis office. His fourteen-year association with WCCO, coupled with twenty-five years as a station broker, has provided him with a keen knowledge of the media industry and the "deal process" of buying and selling properties. He has been involved with transactions for more than 160 media properties covering nine states. Additionally, Johnson has appraised more than 60 broadcast properties in the Midwest and surrounding areas.Johnson is a member of five broadcasting organizations. He has authored articles for the Minnesota Broadcasters Association newsletter and contributes to many national trade publications.
William H. (Bill) Lytle, Director
Bill Lytle manages the Kansas City office. He has over 50 years in the media business, in both radio and television. Mr. Lytle served as the General Manager at KXTR-FM and the Sales Manager at both KMBZ-AM and KNBC-AM, all in Kansas City. He has been a media broker for almost 30 years, having been an associate broker with Chapman Associates prior to joining Media Services Group. Mr. Lytle received his B.A. degree from Northwestern University and performed his graduate studies at the University of Kansas, where he spent 15 years as a guest lecturer in Strategic Sales.
Robert (Bob) Maccini, Director
Bob Maccini commenced his broadcasting involvement at Old Stone Bank, Providence, RI where he managed the bank's Communications Lending Group for five years. Subsequently, Mr. Maccini founded and managed Chapman Financial Services, a subsidiary of Chapman Associates which provided investment banking services to the broadcasting industry. Mr. Maccini has worked with numerous financial institutions in broadcasting related workout transactions and has been appointed as a CRO, receiver and examiner by various courts to oversee and sell radio and cable television companies. Mr. Maccini received his B.A. degree in Economics from Holy Cross College and his M.B.A. degree in Finance from Babson College.
Joseph B. (Jody) McCoy, Director
Jody McCoy has been successfully involved in radio and television sales, sales management, general management, and station ownership. He has been a station broker for over 20 years, and has handled transactions encompassing approximately one hundred stations. He also has experience as an expert witness regarding station values and other broadcast issues. Mr. McCoy received a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a M.A. in Communications Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also completed the courses of the Mass Media Institute at Stanford University, the NAB Sales Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Young Executives Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Former employers included Turner Communications, Group W, and Jefferson-Pilot Communications.
R. Thomas (Tom) McKinley, Director
Tom McKinley manages the company’s New York Metro office. He opened the office in 1996, after 30 years of experience in the broadcast industry. His experience in station and group management is extensive having worked for Evergreen Media and Noble Broadcast Group. National corporate experience includes positions as Executive Vice President, Major Market Radio, and President, Group W Radio sales. Mr. McKinley received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Temple University.
Michael McKinley, Associate
Michael McKinley has over 20 years experience and a comprehensive background in Broadcasting Sales, Management and related Marketing Management Positions. His brokerage experience dates to 2000 when he joined the West Coast office of Media Services Group. He is located in the Northern California office in Sonoma, CA. Initial experience in radio sales, and management was with KNBR-AM and KFOG-FM first as Account Executive and then National Sales Manager. While in that position he was recruited by the San Francisco Giants baseball team to assist in building their in-house Marketing Department. He eventually became Corporate Sponsorship Manager. In 1994, he moved to Philadelphia and joined WPHT-AM and their Philadelphia Philly’s Radio Network. Returning to the West Coast he moved to TV and held positions with Telemundo, NBC, and KBHK, and UPN Bay Area. Michael has a B.S. Degree in Finance from La Salle University, Philadelphia, PA
G. Gregory (Greg) Merrill, Director
Greg Merrill manages the Salt Lake City office. He has been a media broker for over 30 years having represented sellers and buyers in more than 150 transactions. Specializing in the intermountain/northwest region of the country, he has sold more radio properties in that area than any other broker in the country. Additionally, he has acted as an expert witness in numerous court appearances and has served as court appointed receiver for radio stations in the region. He began his career in radio station management and ownership. Prior to joining Media Services Group, Mr. Merrill was an Associate Broker/Vice President of Chapman Associates for ten years. Mr. Merrill graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in Business Administration/Economics and obtained a Master's Degree in Communications (Broadcast) from Utah State University. He is a graduate of REI Engineering School and holds a 1st Class Radio-telephone license.
George R. Reed, Managing Director
George Reed manages Media Services Group’s Florida office and is Managing Director for the firm. He has been actively involved in the broadcasting industry since 1972. He joined Chapman Associates in 1987 as a radio and TV station broker/consultant, and co-founded Media Services Group in 1989. Mr. Reed's practice includes station brokerage, valuations, investment banking, and workout restructuring consulting. He has served as an expert witness in State and Federal courts concerning station valuations, and as a court appointed Receiver.
He owns and operates six stations and digital assets in Charlottesville, VA (Monticello Media). In addition, he owns a cell tower company (USAntenna, Inc.) with towers in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Mr. Reed received his B.B.A degree from Mercer University and his M.B.A. from Georgia State University's Executive MBA program. He is a past President of National Association of Media Brokers and serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters. Stephan C. Sloan, Director
Based in Providence, RI, Stephan Sloan assists clients in a variety of investment banking, brokerage, appraisal, portfolio management, and expert testimony tasks. Mr. Sloan has helped clients obtain more than $100 million in senior debt and brokered the sale of towers and broadcast properties with an aggregate value of more than $200 million. He has appraised or assisted in the appraisal of radio, television, tower, and cable television systems valued in excess of $1 billion for clients that include the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC). Working with Director Robert J. Maccini in Media Services' Broadcast Portfolio Group, Mr. Sloan has helped financial institutions with problems in their broadcast and cable loan portfolios and in court-appointed receivership assignments. He has also been accepted in state court as an expert witness on radio station valuation, finance, and receivership matters.
Bill Whitley, Director
Bill Whitley manages the Dallas office. He has held sales and management positions at stations in Temple, Dallas and Little Rock prior to entering the media brokerage field in 1978 with Chapman Associates. In that capacity he has handled over $200 million in sales and over 300 appraisal assignments. Mr. Whitley received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Radio-TV from Texas Christian University and served as an adjunct faculty member of the Broadcasting Department of Southern Methodist University.
